Description
Linguistics is a Social Science. Language research helps us better understand how and why people speak and write the way they do. This course is an introduction to the science of language. The focus is on scientific aspects of linguistics, specifically articulatory phonetics (including the IPA transcription), phonology, morphology, and psycholinguistics/neurolinguistics. Students will study and apply foundational concepts from the main fields of linguistics research, develop skills in linguistic analysis of data, define conceptual and methodological principles of linguistics, and apply them to linguistic problems and case studies. This course will have relevance for students in a range of fields, including health care, education, and the humanities. Also, learning more about linguistics will help you fall in love with language in ways you didn’t know were possible!
