Description
Mount Mary University is caretaker of an important Fashion Archive consisting of 10,000 artifacts dating from the late 18th to the early 21st century This innovative class allows hands-on exploration of these historical objects through an introduction to professional approaches to care/conservation, historical/cultural research methods, material culture study, and progressive curatorial approaches. Students work individually and collaboratively to reinterpret culturally complex items from the Fashion Archive through their own interpretive lenses, giving voice to new and untold stories about old things. Strong emphasis on social justice-oriented themes such as social change, politics, race, gender, culture and our dynamic global community.
