Description

This course will examine qualitative research methodologies in counseling. Students will be introduced to the basic theories and approaches of qualitative research designs, such as phenomenology, ethnography, grounded theory, action research and narrative analysis. Students will learn more in-depth about the case study method. Students will learn to approach research from a query driven perspective, along with exploring the philosophical underpinnings of qualitative research from a historical perspective. Over the course of the semester, students will be required to participate in a project in which they design a qualitative case study, interview participants, transcribe interviews, analyze data, and present their findings in a written document.
